Jazz Instruction

Learning to play or sing Jazz (and other popular styles) is often a departure from traditional lessons where we learn “notes on a page."  Reading charts, lead sheets, arranging, and improvising require a different mind-set.  Learning how to build chords, how to voice them, and how to improvise over them is an important part of Jazz Training.  Jazz History and listening skills are developed, and Music Theory comes alive as it is integrated into one’s playing.

Jazz doesn’t have to be frightening or intimidating.  Laura is skilled at breaking down tasks into manageable bites.  Beginning with exploration of Blues forms and “easy” jazz tunes makes this journey an enjoyable excursion.
