Piano Lessons

Most of Laura’s piano students are looking for a teacher who is “different”.  There are many wonderful piano teachers in the Portland area.  Most are schooled traditionally and many teach in a traditional manner.  While this works for some students, it doesn’t work for everyone.  If you are looking for an extraordinarily creative teacher who is very reactive to your (or your child’s) needs, Laura may be the instructor you’ve been seeking.

Laura specializes in alternative learning styles, tailoring lessons to the student.  Any style, any level, "What do YOU want to learn today?"

Laura’s current and past students include:

  • Beginners of all ages
  • Self-taught Musicians of all ages
  • Professional Performers, Teachers, their Students, and their Children
  • Teens and Adults headed toward music careers
  • Special Needs and/or Highly Gifted Children and Teens
  • Vocalists learning to accompany themselves

Piano lessons consist of more than just playing notes.  Laura covers a wide repertoire related to piano including:

  • Improvisation
  • Ear training
  • Musicianship
  • Accompanying
  • College Prep
  • Audition and Contest Prep
  • Music Theory
  • Composition
  • Transposition
  • Jazz Theory and Harmony
  • Sight Reading

What People are Saying

"Laura is so creative, innovative, and fun in her teaching approach for piano lessons! Following my daughter's lessons, she just couldn't wait to get home to practice what she had just learned!"  Linda Gibbs

"Laura's expertise in improvisation has been valuable to me as a teacher and for my students as well.  She helps students think outside the traditional music "box".  This not only broadens their understanding in how to look at music as a whole but inspires them to try it too." Heidi Ball, Piano Teacher
